WHAT IS COCHELE?

COCHELE is a lemonade made from dried coffee cherries. It’s natural, lightly carbonated and delightful. One bottle contains approximately 70mg of caffeine – a natural dose of energy that boosts, revives and will not leave you unsatisfied. In this lemonade you will find some already familiar tastes such as malt, dried apples and plums, but in a new and surprising combination.

Coffee cherry lemonade COCHELE is without additives and has a low sugar content.

Coffee cherry lemonade COCHELE is madefrom dried coffee cherries, while preserving the polyphenols contained within them. A study by the RSU Research Laboratory shows that a bottle of the COCHELE coffee cherry lemonade contains ~ 190 mg of polyphenol, which is equivalent to the same amount of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice or 350 g of white grapes.

Polyphenols, which are potent removers of free radicals, are among the most widely found antioxidants in plants. Many studies have shown the effects of free radicals on cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disease, neurodegenerative disorders, aging and the development of other processes, and the possibility of reducing the risk of disease if antioxidant-rich products are consumed. Antioxidants from dietary sources can protect against free radicals that cause cell damage. Polyphenols present in the coffee cherry lemonade COCHELE demonstrate antioxidantive activity, which can protect cells / tissues from oxidative damage by neutralizing free radicals and increase the body’s resistance to oxidative stress and strengthen the natural defence system.

IDEA OF COCHELE

A coffee tree in nature and on plantations grows sweet and juicy coffee cherries every year. The seeds of these cherries are the coffee beans which are roasted and from which coffee is produced. If the coffee cherry pulp and peel are dried correctly, Cascara – coffee cherry tea – is made.

This is an outstanding opportunity for coffee brewers to produce more drink types from their plantations. Nevertheless to keep the juiciness and sweetness of cherries, drying conditions play a crucial role. On most coffee plantations, the coffee cherry drying process happens under a clear sky without using any technology to monitor temperature, humidity or the flow of the air. That’s why the geographical and weather conditions influence the final result so much. We’ve tried out Cascaras produced by many countries, some of them were great, some of them were not so good.

Out of all that we’ve tried, we finally found truly great, sweet and juicy dried coffee cherries. They are grown, selected and processed in Nicaragua. We feel honoured to know these coffee plantation’s owners who are dedicated to their product’s quality.

Since 2016 Andrito Coffee Roastery offers this coffee cherry tea, which tastes good cold as well as hot, to its clients. And it is even more refreshing and reviving when it’s lightly carbonated. To keep the drink as close to nature as possible, but at the same time to make it more approachable, Andris – the founder of Andrito Coffee Roastery – collaborated with the owner of the Valmiermuiža Craft Brewery, Aigars. This collaboration lead to the creation of COCHELE.
